Le Cirque De La Mort

This has been a most extraordinary case. First a knifing in Piccadilly Station, then a hanging in the man's own apartment, and now a woman burned at the stake on a rooftop! If it weren't for Sherlock's amazing ability to deduce pattern from minutiae we would never have found this covey of killers - although for the sake of Miss Bairnes and the three most recent victims I wish we had found them sooner, or rather that Scotland Yard had done their job properly.

To explain, then: all the murders were committed by members of a circus troupe, travelling extensively around Britain. The troupe members took their circus skills and...transposed them to the real world. The knife throwers were the ones who killed Simon Brown, dislodging the camera that would have recorded incriminating evidence with the accuracy practiced for their performance. The strong man and trapeze artist hung Lance Peterson, manhandling him into the noose with overwhelming strength and an intimate knowledge of ropes. As for Emma Saunders...once the fire breather got his hands on her, she was toast. Oh, excuse the pun - it seems Sherlock is having an effect on my sense of humour. It is increasingly morbid.

But where is Moriarty in all of this? He certainly wasn't behind the murders - too personal and passionate for his mark, he is all cold efficiency. He certainly took an interest, but as for his reasons...we still don't know. Perhaps the troupe were a rival he wanted gone, and he used Sherlock to do it - or perhaps he was just bored and wanted to watch Sherlock dance again.
